My name is Shwetha Jayaraj, a student accepted in the Master’s fall 2020 graduate program for computer science at NYIT. Being born born in Bakersfield, California & then raised in suburbian Connecticut, I can clearly recall being asked what I wanted to be when I grew up as a child. I had many dreams and was a highly imaginative child so I remember saying that I just wanted to help the world (but also be a rockstar astronaut). I was pretty instantaneously shut down, as being raised by strict Indian parents, I was told to either choose just one concentration in life, either being a doctor or an engineer, in order to be able to “make it” here in America. However, I had grown up on superheroes, comic books, Disney movies, & a nurtured imaginative mind. Since then, I learned that I wanted to be someone that could simply follow her naive aspirations to achieve those dreams for a better future and I wanted to allow security for that possibility to exist for both myself and the rest of society. This is what I believe the _blank___ Fellowship Program will greatly provide me with the opportunity to achieve & why I am so keenly interested in pursuing this honorable fellowship.

My passionate curiosity for the world did not agree therefore with this binary of a doctor or engineer perspective. I was interested in art, technology, design, history, languages, fiction, music, games or, in other words: things that made people feel happy. I ended up choosing computer science as my undergraduate major as I was an avid gamer & coder at the time anyways and began commuting to the University of Connecticut. When I realized that UConn, while an educationally challenging and informative experience, I further realized that in order to follow through on achieving my dreams I would always have to keep challenging myself to go outside of my comfort zone and to simply never give up. This is also a crucial aspect of the NNSA program that I want to be able to continue experience with having not lived with any recollection outside of the northeastern part of the US. After I moved to New York City and enrolled in the combined B.S/M.S program in computer science offered at NYIT I grew and learned more about the true details that are needed in order to make an effective impact, I slowly grew to understand the beauty in science and the astounding truth of mathematics. Knowledge of these two broad subjects in fact would lead into a better understanding and appreciation for design, for history, for technology, & even for art. I transferred & pursued finishing my bachelors degree as an Interdisciplinary Studies major in Computer Science, Social Sciences, & Technology & formed my own path as well as a major that would serve to fit my education based on what I wanted to dedicate my life to improving in society.

**Sam Hedemann: Letter of recommendation?
Hi Sam!
I am applying for a fellowship with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and they require two letters of recommendation. I was hoping to take you up on that letter of recommendation if you would be willing to perhaps write a letter of recommendation advocating for me especially being someone who helped me so much in encouraging the quantum computing club and with your powerful lectures.
Out of all professors at NYIT, it was definitely you that helped keep me going in my passion for learning more about quantum technology & even though we’ve never met in person the impact you’ve made in my life is quite profound. Once again, I just want to thank you a bunch for that in itself.

and getting the quality education that I hope to soon accomplish this coming fall.
For the process for this application, I just have to write in your email and they will email you a link to submit the letter of recommendation to so that it stays confidential.

**Prof Izady : Possible letter of recommendation?
Hello Professor Izady!
You may not remember me but I was in your PSCI 355 class on Government & Business with Azaan & Ammar in that intimate three person lecture around this time of fall last year which was my first semester actually transferred in there.

My major at NYIT is Interdisciplinary Studies in Computer Science, Social Science, & Technology. The word technology is quite broad but your class fulfilled & even more enlightened me on many aspects of the social science part of my major by studying the relationship between government & business. So I was hoping if would write a quick letter of recommendation to the advocating me for the Graduate Research Fellowship due later on in October.
While I was admittedly late in handing in my papers I loved your class & it today is still one of my top favorite classes I’ve taken. The fact that we even got to go to the United Nations embassy was incredibly exciting as well & was an experience unlike any other I’ve had. Understandably it is seeming to be a strange & busy semester coming up so I would understand if you aren’t able to do so as well. I figured it would be worth the try in asking though & if not I hope to see you around as well! (Unfortunately I will be returning on-campus for 2 electrical labs I have).
